A MESSAGE FROM MRS. BUTTERS
Welcome to Rockhill Elementary School, home of the Raccoons! Our school is home to 575 pupils in grades K through 5 and is located in the Rock Hill district in the Garrisonville area of Stafford County. The school opened its doors in January of 1989 and has 41 classrooms, a computer lab, an activity room and a cafeteria. RES is committed to assuring that "No child is left behind" and has instituted a variety of programs to attain this goal. This year our school Improvement Plan is focusing on Vocabulary Development. Our teachers work cooperatively with parents to assure student success. Our active PTO sponsors a variety of family centered activities, supports our school cultural events, and purchases numerous instructional supplies and materials.
Accreditation and Adequately Yearly Progress Information
Rockhill is fully accredited for the 2007-2008 school year by the Virginia Department of Education. We have also met Adequate Yearly Progress benchmarks designated by the U.S. Department of Education. Our teachers work diligently aligning the curriculum taught with the state Standards of Learning and our scores show that our students continue learning each year. We are pleased with our status but continually improve our instructional program at all grade levels. We encourage all parents to become actively involved in your child's learning and stay informed of the curriculum being taught so you can provide needed support from home. Let me stress to you how important student attendance, arrival to school on time, and staying until dismissal time is to your child's success. Our teachers are instructing all day and we need students to be in attendance all day in order to get the most out of school. Thank you in advance for your support.
About Mrs. Butters
I have been the principal here at Rockhill since the school opened in 1989. Prior to that, I was the principal and assistant principal at Garrisonville Elementary, a 3rd grade teacher and a 6th grade teacher. I am proud to say that I have worked in Stafford County for my entire 28 year education career! My husband is the principal of Stafford Middle School and we have 4 children, ages 9,11,15,and 18. I am a graduate of Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!), earned my Masters at George Mason Univeristy, and have completed all but my dissertation for a doctorate at the University of Virginia. In my spare time I enjoy cheering on my children's sports teams, spending time with family, travelling, and reading the newspaper.
I encourage you to enjoy this web site as you learn about our school. If I can be of further assistance, please email me at mbutters@staffordschools.net
